Who can get NDIS Funding?

The NDIS funding is specifically created to assist individuals with disabilities between the ages of 9 and 65 at time of application. It's crucial to remember that not all disabilities are eligible for NDIS funding as eligibiliy is determined based on the impact of the disability in the persons life. Nevertheless, it's still highly recommended to explore the various options that are available.

How do I apply for NDIS?

The first step to apply for NDIS funding, is to locate your nearest NDIS Local Area Coordinator (LAC)  and request an appointment to discuss your applicaiton. If you do not have a local area coordinator close to you, you can contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110.

What do I need?

When applying for NDIS funding, it is crucial to have sufficient evidence of your disability. This evidence should include a formal diagnosis by a qualified practitioner, as well as two additional supporting statements from a GP and another allied health practitioner, such as an Occupational Therapist. It is important to note that the more comprehensive and detailed the information provided, the greater the likelihood of a successful outcome for your application. Therefore, it is highly recommended to gather as much relevant information as possible to support application.

What can I use with my plan?

The funding provided in the NDIS plan can be utilized to support daily tasks and personal care, depending on the diagnosed disability and its impact on the participant's life. This may include the assistance of support workers or therapists such as Occupational therapists, Psychologists or Speech therapists, who can provide specialized care and support to help the participant achieve their goals and improve their of life."

When using your plan, you need to remember that supports must be reasonable and necessary according to the participants disability, it cannot be used on things that would be considered "normal daily expenses" such as paying for bills, shopping, holidays, internet, phones etc..

If you intend to go on a holiday and you need supports to assist you participate on your holiday, the NDIS may be used to pay for support worker hours in order for you to attend.  It is important to note that you will need to discuss this with your support coordinator or local area coordinator prior to making plans as you may not have enough funding to cover the hours required for support. You also need to make an agreement of supports to be provided, prior to your holiday.

Please note, you will be solely responsible for the cost of your holiday, this includes accommodation, transport, food and activities and you will also be responsible for paying for the accommodation and activities for your support worker.  This is diffrerent from STA/including Respite.

Short Term Accommodation funding can be used for respite to support you and your carers. This gives your carers a short break from their caring role or if your usual support network isn’t available for a short period.
